This rap battle lays out for us, in fun and even silly terms, the two most important philosophical viewpoints of human history, self-governance versus rule over others.

In economics, the actual public debate between John Maynard Keynes and Friedrich Hayek is a perfect model for the struggle between those ideas. These two friends and colleagues argued with each other in open letters published in the 1930s about whether there should be top-down forced planning by the ruling class, or spontaneous order produced by each person being free to plan for himself.

In this fictionalized music-video version of that discourse, many of the famous catch phrases and points made are turned into metered dissing between hip-hop economists playing the dozens.

Hayek, on the left, Keynes, on the right (no pun intended) were friends in real life.
