Meh Sherabi

Meh Sherabi

Swet Shop Boys

“Meh Sharabi” translates from Hindi or Urdu as “I am a drunkard.” The word Sherabi means alcoholic or even simply, one who drinks.

The line “Mein Sharabi” was popularized by the late Aziz Mian in a very popular qawwali of his in the late 70’s, in which he repeats the line again and again in his hook. Being that Riz MC is of Pakistani descent and refers to the Pakistani flag the song itself, this song seems to be heavily influenced by Aziz Mian and his narrative of alcholol’s allegorical role in his songs.

They actually sample Aziz Mian in this song.

“Meh” is normally romanized as “Mein”, possibly indicating their indifference to their drinking habit.
