Clean Bandit released “A Christmas Wish” on 9 December 2019, three days before the UK general election.

Before the election, the right-wing Conservative Party had been in government for nine years. Clean Bandit had previously supported the left-wing Labour party, with Grace Chatto speaking at the 2017 party conference and performing at Labour Live in 2018.

With this song, the group promote an anti-Conservative message. They officially endorsed the Labour Party’s cultural strategy at its November launch. The Labour Party posted the song on social media with the comment “Clean Bandit’s new video reminds us to vote for kindness and compassion this Thursday”.
