The song was originally written and recorded by Trinidadian singer Anslem Douglas, and it was, at the time, titled “Doggie”.

Even though its lyrics were almost unanimously criticized by specialized reviewers, Baha Men’s “Who Let the Dogs Out” became a successful song, being the 4th biggest-selling single of 2000 in the United Kingdom, and reaching the #1 chart position in Australia and New Zealand.

At the 2001 Grammy Awards, “Who Let the Dogs Out” won the Grammy for Best Dance Recording.
