Afterlife

Afterlife

Chris Brown

The long-awaited “Afterlife” is an upbeat track, inspired and sampled from Michael Jackson’s 1989 track “Leave Me Alone”. In the track, Chris explains his knowledge of the muse’s activites in town, saying that he’ll meet her in the afterlife, and to not curve his affections and advances.

Following the release of the Deluxe version of “Heartbreak on a Full Moon”, the track was initially teased in December 2017 by Chris in a now-deleted Instagram post (the snippet has been reposted various times on YouTube). The track’s lyrics lead fans to assume various titles of the track, “Killin' Me Now”, “No Curvin' Me Now” and the track’s eventual lasting title, “Afterlife”.

The track was thought to be apart of Chris' 2019 album, “Indigo”, but alongside other teased tracks like “Levels” and “Dime”, the songs were never released. Hope of the song’s release diminished as another track, “Sex Mit Dir” by APACHE 207, released with a similar beat.

The track was presumably leaked and vaulted around 2020-2023, as snippets of the song circulated. Renewed hope of the song’s release came in March 2024, when Chris posted the tracklist to the “11:11” Deluxe album. Fans pointed out that the 9th track, titled “Don’t Curve Me”, matched lyrics from the snippet, leading to speculation of the track’s release.

A final snippet of the song was leaked less than 5 days from the eventual release. The song released with it’s original fan-named title of “Afterlife” on April 11th, 2024.
