No Time To Die

No Time To Die

Billie Eilish

“No Time to Die” serves as the theme song to the 25th James Bond film, No Time to Die. The song was announced by Billie on January 14, 2020.

The song explores a theme of romantic betrayal, in line with hints from the film’s trailer that dark secrets will be revealed about Bond’s Spectre love interest, Dr. Madeleine Swann.

Musically, Eilish and FINNEAS make reference to classic musical Bond tropes, incorporating familiar strings and tremolo guitar lines, jarring brass, and its final, signature minor 9th chord, which also closes Monty Norman’s original Bond theme.

The song follows in the fabled series of theme songs used in the film franchise, featuring the likes of mega-hits such as “Skyfall” by British singer Adele, “Live and Let Die” by former Beatle Paul McCartney, and “Goldfinger” by Shirley Bassey. The song takes the same title as its accompanying film, No Time to Die. Due to delays caused by the COVID pandemic, the song won the Oscar for Best Original Song on March 27, 2022, more than two years after it was released to the public.
