I Still Love You

I Still Love You

Jennifer Hudson

“I Still Love You” is an updated throwback—Hudson’s take on a disco track from the 70s, with production from British electronic duo Gorgon City.

JHUD dropped the song in 2014, right before producers Gorgon City dropped their debut solo album on which Hudson was able to return the favor, providing vocals for their song “Go All Night.” This song was produced right around the time when UK producers were dominating the pop charts. Gorgon City found themselves in the middle of the UK dance music scene with producers Disclosure, MNEK, and Clean Bandit. This song is very much a product of that scene and sound. In an interview with Idolator, Gorgon City said:

There’s definitely a kind of scene—everyone’s helping each other out whether it’s feedback or collaboration.

The original version of this song from 2011 was written and produced by UK DJ and one of the founding members of Major Lazer, Switch. He cowrote this track with veteran songwriter Andrea Martin, whose penned R&B ballads for Monica, SWV, and Toni Braxton. She also provided vocals for the original track.

Hudson dropped a music video the year after this song first came out. It depicted a gay couple getting married, despite one of their father’s hesitations. The music video was released ahead of the Supreme Court’s ruling that legalized same-sex marriage. Hudson told MTV:

I hope people walk away with a broader perspective of marriage equality.
