Ain’t Equal

Ain’t Equal

Megan Thee Stallion

“Ain’t Equal” is a song of triumph and overcoming obstacles. Houston bred rapper, Megan addresses the “haters” lets them know she fears no one and will continue to reign and be unstoppable in the game. It had been a devastating and tumultuous year; Meg lost her great-grandmother in the third month of 2019, two weeks later, in the same month, her mother/manager and mentor, Holly Thomas, tragically lost her battle with stage four brain cancer. Having suffered in recent years negative reviews and responses from critics and naysayers who believed she was a passing short scene-stealer and one-hit wonder with her sexy image labeling her overly-sexualized, explicit and “exploitive” and her lyrics too raunchy, a prominent fixture in the hip-hop mainstream. What many would regard as further reinscribing the media’s depictions of Jezebel/Sapphire trope of Black women’s sexuality and representation. The self-proclaimed braggadocios “Hot Girl” Meg’s response to the negative Nancy’s is that they “aren’t equal” and not on her level and she’s gonna do her, regardless of others views, interest and efforts to “contain” her.
