“almost home” is the seventh and final song on mxmtoon’s sophomore EP dawn.

This song shares an interaction between young Maia and her mother in a car ride that must be rather long as it appears as though young Maia was antsy. At the time, her mother eased her and told her that if she slept the time would pass faster.

As the song builds outwards from that interaction, older Maia seems to be looking back on just how quickly time has passed and how far away that interaction between she and her mother may have been. The song overall seems to highlight just how quickly we all grow out of childhood and overall growing pains.

On April 23rd, 2020, Maia held an AMA on her Twitter page. When asked about her favorite song off of the EP, she responded with “almost home.”
