What was initially assumed to be the official remix to Doja Cat’s smash hit, “Say So,” this version leaked a day before release, leading Doja and featured rapper Nicki Minaj to head to socials and reveal it was not the final cut. While it should’ve remained only a leak, this version was initially available instead on some streaming services such as Spotify and TIDAL. It did, however, see an official release a week later on May 8th, likely to boost streams.

The track was made a single months after its initial release on Doja’s sophomore album Hot Pink when it had explosively risen in popularity thanks to the social media app TikTok. “Say So” was sitting at its peak at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart the week Doja announced the remix on her social media.

Doja has previously expressed her admiration for Nicki several times before hinting at the collaboration in an Instagram livestream on April 22nd:

I have a feature coming out but […] I can’t say who it is. […] You guys will be very excited and it will be the best thing that has ever – as far as features go, for me – […] been offered.
