a few words for the firing squad (radiation)

Run The Jewels

As the last song of the album a few words for the firing squad (radiation) is a journey of recollection by both Killer Mike and El-P as they look at how each on has reached this level and how they will continue to move forward for all those who love music and want a better society.

The title refers to a tradition of offering a person who is about to be shot, or killed on death row, an opportunity for last words before they die.

There are plenty of websites offering lists of “legendary” last words stated by criminals and revolutionaries before their deaths.

The reference here, especially by naming a firing squad alludes to them being captured by the state and executed for their beliefs and what they stand for. Firing squads are usually used by outwardly repressive leaders of a state. This is highlighted by the outro, which seems to cap the final chapter of this tale.

In addition, The ¾ bass at the start and the whole musical structure of the song, as well as the topics discussed herein, are similiar to EL-P’s outro song on his solo project Cancer 4 Cure.
