A Good Name

A Good Name

Shad

“A Good Name” is from Shad’s third album TSOL (2010). While still largely underground, TSOL brought Shad some mainstream success… in Canada, anyway. It peaked at 24 on the Canadian Albums Chart and won him a Juno for Rap Album of the Year (beating Drake’s Thank Me Later).

This song discusses the history of Shad’s full name. The first verse relates the biblical origin of his first name, Shadrach, which comes from the Book of Daniel. The second verse describes the history of Shad’s last name, Kabango, and his family.

The production on “A Good Name” is done by fellow Canadian, Classified. Samples include Method Man’s “Torture” and Digable Planets' “Where I’m From”.
