“Mr Magic (Through The Smoke)” is the first of Winehouse’s weed anthems, preceding 2006’s “Addicted”. While other songs throughout her discography allude to the psychoactive drug, “Mr Magic (Through The Smoke)” is exclusively devoted to her love of the sticky green.

Winehouse had no shame in admitting the truth behind the song’s theme, telling AP Archive:

The one thing that continues to interest me is human behaviour and interaction between two people […] Even the relationship between me and inside me. I’ve got songs like “Mr Magic” which is about my substance abuse – that is not a good thing to say!
