“Detroit Vs Everybody” is the third single released from Shady Records compilation album, SHADY XV. Featuring several of Detroit’s prominent rappers, each verse tells a different story. Some of the major themes include gratitude for growing up in Detroit, the rough nature of the streets and why people call Detroit home.

The song name is inspired by clothing brand DETROIT VS. EVERYBODY. Creator Tommy Walker describes his brand via his store’s website as:

A simple concept with a powerful message is all it took for Detroit native Tommey Walker a self-professed commissioned artist, brand manager and creative problem solver to inspire a city. The brand Detroit Vs. Everybody seeks to unite the city of Detroit while politely flipping the bird to the rest of the world.

Fed up with the media’s continual bashing and lack of cultural recognition for the place that has contributed so much to the world and society, Walker envisioned his brand being able to, “rebuild Detroit’s image through the restored pride of Detroiters universally” and in 2012 released Detroit Vs. Everybody collection that has become a forceful movement in and around the city and country.
