“POPSTAR” is one of the dual lead singles—along with “GREECE”—from DJ Khaled’s twelfth studio album, KHALED KHALED. Both tracks feature Drake and are Khaled’s first releases since his May 2019 album, Father of Asahd.

On the song, Drake likens himself to a pop star and the lifestyle that comes with being one—girls calling him nonstop, sporting credit cards with high spending limits, and buying large numbers of expensive watches. He also name-drops pop singers Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber, adding to the “pop star” theme of the song.

On June 30, 2020, Khaled and Drake both posted pictures of owls—the symbol of Drake’s OVO Sound imprint—teasing a possible collaboration between them. On July 15, 2020—two days before the song’s official release—Khaled posted the song’s release date and cover art on his Instagram account.

On September 4, 2020, the song’s official music video was released. Justin Bieber, who’s mentioned in the song, makes a cameo in the video and acts as a stand-in for Drake.
