Since Sam Smith’s last album in 2017, there has been a steady stream of new singles. The third Sam Smith album, originally entitled To Die For was planned for Spring 2020, but the Covid-19 pandemic rendered the title and some of the content unsuitable. The album, retitled Love Goes was dropped on 30 October and this is the fourth track.

This track, co-written with Jimmy Napes and Burna Boy, is a mid-tempo love song with a strong beat. The lyric draws on the themes of developing love and emotional insecurity.

In its review Billboard Magazine wrote:

Sam Smith is straddling two worlds — the past, where he sang soulful, heartbroken ballads, and the present, where the star has begun to present more pop-forward tracks. On “My Oasis,” Smith fuses the two into an entrancing, club/bedroom hybrid single, complete with a drilling beat and hypnotic bells to heighten the mood. When Nigerian superstar Burna Boy jumps on the track, he blends in his own style into the mix, making their latest song complex and vastly different from anything else you’ll hear today.
