Speaking with Murs on The Green Room podcast, Slug spoke of the cover of the album being a tribute to 80s Rn'B singer Alexander O'Neal.

The title is obviously a pun on his name. Besides being a tribute though, it may also be seen as a way for Felt to elevate their art to the level of the 80s music which they idolize: they are like Alexander – for real.
