Butterfly

Demi Lovato

“Butterfly” is the eighteenth track on Demi Lovato’s seventh album, Dancing With The Devil…The Art of Starting Over. It is a song about Demi’s late father, who passed away in June 2013. Less than a week after they found out, they went on Good Morning America to discuss his death and announce the Lovato Treatment Scholarship Program in honor of him. The very next day, they performed for the show’s Summer Concert Series, which they mentioned later was not nearly enough time to properly mourn. Over the years, they continued to feel conflicted over how to feel about his death. In 2020, they revealed in a Vogue article that they had written a gratitude letter to their father, finally releasing all of their resentment towards him. On August 6, 2020, Demi posted on an Instagram story that they were writing “Butterfly.” Butterflies became one of the main themes of the album.
