In “Santa Tell Me,” Ariana makes a wish to Santa Claus, pleading for him to not let her fall in love with her crush if they won’t be together in a year. She wants to make sure that the relationship is going to last before she puts her all into it.

In August, 2014, Grande ended her relationship with YouTuber, Jai Brooks. Two months later, in October, 2014, she confirmed being in a relationship with rapper, Big Sean. It is likely that “Santa Tell Me” is about Ariana’s hesitation at starting the new relationship with Big Sean, especially so soon after her breakup with Brooks.

She debuted the song during the A Very Grammy Christmas show.

The song is a bonus track on the Japanese edition of the Christmas Kisses EP, which was released on 3 December 2014. It is the EP’s fifth single.
