Diamonds

Sam Smith

“Diamonds” is the second official single by English singer Sam Smith, taken from their third studio album, Love Goes. The upbeat song, follows July 2020’s first single “My Oasis” with Burna Boy

Along with the release of the song, Smith took to social media to announce the new release date of their third studio album, as well as the new cover art, track-list, and cover art.

Sam wrote:

The last two years have been the most experimental time of my life, personally but also musically. Every time I went into the studio I promised myself I would shoot for the stars and have no limitations.

“Diamonds” is a fast-tempo electro-pop production with a strong beat, in minor key, and marks a new departure in style for Sam.

Rolling Stone magazine reported that “Sam is reborn — three minutes and 34 seconds of catharsis. Smith sings of a lying love who cared more about the star’s fame and material goods than their heart.” It adds that the song is a “dance-floor anthem … a catchy bass line comes in just in time for the chorus. … The song’s rhythm section is joined by a funky guitar riff that makes the listener want to body-roll their blues away.”

Billboard Magazine described the song as a “heartbreaking track, juxtaposed onto a deliciously synth-y beat.”
