In “as long as you care” Ruel details how strenuous travelling for his work is, catching red-eye flights and losing sleep.

“as long as you care” is the first single from Ruel’s third EP, Bright Lights, Red Eyes set to be released on October 23, 2020. The song marks Ruel’s first solo release since September 2019.

In an interview for triple j, Ruel revealed that “as long as you care” was written in 2019, saying that the Bright Lights, Red Eyes EP:

Isn’t who I am right now, […] but it’s the most mature you’ve ever heard me and it was me, in that moment in time.
