As an alumni of CU Boulder, I really took pride in finishing college and challenging myself to finish despite being one of the only black students studying my areas of study (Chinese). It was a lonely journey but I connected with music communities like Madelife in Boulder, CO where I performed and did open mic nights and found a sense of community. When I performed in Colorado, most times it was in front of a crowd that looked nothing like me. #Freestyling was and will continue to be my favorite Ice breaker to connect with the crowd. Beyond what we look like, our flaws, and differences, everyone in the room has one common denominator, our love for #HipHop 🥰 Happy Belated Birthday Hip Hop 🗣 We’ll continue to celebrate you everyday 🎤
