Rubin had listened to NF’s Chasing (Demo) heavily since it had released, relating heavily to the song. A week prior to Rubin’s Remix was released onto his YouTube channel, he had started writing the first verse of the song, with his second verse only being written and recorded just a few days before. In addition, he wanted to make the song more relatable to him as an alternative to Chasing (Demo).
