Released a year into the COVID-19 pandemic, “Friends Like This” details the frustrations of quarantine.

The song exclusively premiered on Hollywood Life on March 11, 2021, a day before the official release.

In the Hollywood Life interview, lead vocalist Rena Lovelis described the song,

‘Friends Like This’ is obviously quarantine-inspired, but the song encapsulates more than just the requirement of self-isolation we’ve all had to endure. It’s been such a frustrating past year, so we took that feeling of anger and frustration and translated it into the lyrics of ‘Friends Like This.’ What we found most soothing is that, sonically, the sound and mood of the song doesn’t take on the same emotion that the lyrics do. ‘Friends Like This’ is a really fun and bouncy pop song that acted as our relief from all of the pent-up loneliness and lack of human connection we’re all experiencing.

The track title, “Friends Like This” was revealed to some fans who solved the title reveal puzzle hosted by the band members on December 14, 2020.

The band first teased the song in a video posted on Twitter and TikTok on December 16, 2020, but Rena Lovelis made public the vocal melody prior to the release on TikTok by playing it on the xylophone.
