According to Annie Clark, the soul-infused stellar twelfth track on Daddy’s Home is a “modern take on You Can’t Always Get What You Want” by the Rolling Stones.

Conceptually, the track is about a holiday party in which St. Vincent gathers with some old friends and starts reminiscing and laughing. One person in particular draws her attention, as she realizes, in a split second, right after laughter ends, that they are actually miserable.

The track in itself is chill and wholesome, and there’s actually a very positive message about it, as St. Vincent assures said person that they don’t have to hide their sadness from her, effectively embracing them. However, look closer and you’ll realize that St. Vincent is able to identify that the person is miserable all too well because she too has been in that position, hiding misery and frustration from others.
