After the Flame

After the Flame

Allie X

“After the Flame” is an unreleased song by Allie X, recorded around January of 2014 and produced by Cirkut. It was likely intended for inclusion on CollXtion I.

Thematically, the song seems to explore themes of recovery, transformation and growth after experiencing a significant event or trauma. The lyrics suggest that recovering takes time―similarly to how it takes “a lifetime” for a forest to regenerate after being burned down―and often involves accepting change and taking responsibility for one’s actions. It ultimately conveys a sense of hope for getting “better after the flame”.

In a Tumblr post from December 2015, Allie reflected on the song and described its chorus lyrics as the “weirdest [her] subconscious has ever supplied [her] with”.

The track is registered under multiple musical repertoires as “After the Flames”, although it remains unknown whether this was intentional or simply a typo. The original file name of the leaked version is “After the Flame 1.0”.
