Crying is the lead single from Emma Blackery’s second studio album, Girl in a Box.

The first demo for the song was written in 2017, before Blackery began to work on her debut album Villains.

Lyrically, Crying is about mental health erasure and how many people turn a blind eye to the struggles of people who may seem at first to ‘have it all’.

Blackery cited rock band Paramore as a major influence for Crying, namely their 2017 album After Laughter.
