“Blackbird is the introduction to the character from a sonic perspective. This is meant to be sort of, people talking about the legends of this character and… it’s said that if you look into the sky at night and you see him, it’s a sign that things are gonna be okay. You know on an emotional level all these songs, whether it’s Born Again or Blackbird, they really represent for us as a band, the rebirth of the band and the idea of taking back the things that meant something to us and I think that that is something that can be applicable to anyone. You know, there are things that make us who we are and sometimes we lose those things over time and it’s important to remember what makes you, you, and to hold onto it tight because regardless of what the outside world tries to strip away and what it tries to turn you into, the person that you are and the things that make you who you are intrinsically are the things that matter the most. And so between Born Again and then Blackbird, this is both a story for us as a band, and for me as a lyricist about regaining the things that we love and going out into the world with kind of a renewed vision. And also in the story, it’s about these characters finding a way to have some hope in a world that has otherwise felt extremely tumultuous” – Andy Biersack for Rock Sound (2021).
