Ill Manors

Ill Manors

Plan B (UK)

First song released from Ben Drew aka Plan B’s soundtrack album for his ‘hip hop musical’ film Ill Manors. Told from the perspective of poor, inner-city British youths lashing out at “rich kids” and the government. It heavily references the London riots of Summer 2011.

Plan B has said of the song:

“If you’re born into a family that’s has enough money to educate you properly, you are privileged. You’re not better than anyone else, you’re just lucky. Certain sectors of middle England, not all of them, but the ignorant ones need to wake up and realise that. And stop ridiculing the poor and less fortunate. That is what this song is about.”

He talks very extensively about his message for this song in this great interview:

And here’s a pretty great Tweet about the song from the British Labour politician Jamie Reed:

There is a clear omission of expletives throughout this song even thought to an unsuspecting, upper class audience it still sounds like an angry ‘chav’. Plan B does this in order to prove that expletives are not needed to express his point and further prove to politicians and the media that you don’t need an RP accent to be intelligent.
