Atom Heart Mother Suite

Atom Heart Mother Suite

Pink Floyd

As the titular track in the 1970 album Atom Heart Mother, this is Pink Floyd’s longest uncut song (the longest cut song is “Shine On You Crazy Diamond,” with parts 1-5 and 6-9), timing in at 23:44 minutes long.

“Atom Heart Mother” is a symphonic rock song, which is a blend between orchestral and rock sound. This song features the Ron Geesin Orchestra, as well as the John Alldis Choir. The only other song on the album to do this (as well as the only other song in Pink Floyd’s entire discography) is “Summer ‘68”.

The song is a suite, and is separated into six movements:

  1. “Father’s Shout” (0:00 – 2:54)
  2. “Breast Milky” (2:55 – 5:26)
  3. “Mother Fore” (5:27 – 10:12)
  4. “Funky Dung” (10:13 – 15:27)
  5. “Mind Your Throats Please” (15:28 – 17:55)
  6. “Reemergence” (17:56 – 23:44)
