23 (Re(I)Magined)

Diamond Eyes

The second of three very special live performances from Diamond Eyes in this re-(i)magined series. Recorded at the prestigious Union Chapel in London in early September 2020.

“23 was my age when my best friend was taken from me, she meant the world to me.
It’s been 4 years now & I still don’t quite know how to deal with her departure, truth be told between losing Christina, Harvey (another close friend) & my Grandfather at the end of last year I’ve felt more in the dark now then ever.

No one should ever in any circumstance lose
someone to gun violence, or violence of any kind for that matter, it’s not natural & affects those around the life of the person lost for years & even lifetimes. 23 encompasses more than just grief though, the song is about resilience in the face of emptiness, finding strength in places you never thought to have existed.

To trust in the healing process & accepting loss, even if it feels like letting go will kill you. It won’t kill you though, it’ll make you stronger & like my late Grandfather said to me when Christina passed, “Come on Josh, now is the time to pick up Christina’s flag & fly it as high as you can”.

I hope that this song acts as a safe place for those seeking shelter during a turbulent time in life & fills you with understanding & strength to fight the pain you’re going through.

So that being said, Hug those you love, kiss them on the forehead for that matter & confess your love to them, be it family, friends, your partner because life is short, life is pain & life is beautiful. Life is & will always be, so be present when living life for it only happens once, don’t blink."
