Skrting on the Surface

Skrting on the Surface

The Smile

The song was debuted on piano by Thom Yorke in 2009, during an Atoms For Peace show. At that time, the song was known as “Skirting on the Surface”.
Radiohead played the song live twice during their 2012 US tour.
On May 22 2021, The Smile debuted a new version of the song during their performance for the Glastonbury Festival livestream “Live at Worthy Farm”

During the OK Computer period, an early lyrical link to the song appeared on radiohead.com:
‘hotel falling down.
people aware, but not that bothered, as they skate along the shifting surfaces, parisien, huge, blue, grey, metal shine. i am sitting at a table in a destroyed room pushing cocaine around it shines like tiny diamonds. we are smuggling it in white cake
caged birds accept each other.
but flight is what they long for.’
