On June 3, 2021, Clairo announced that she would be performing a new single titled “Blouse” on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show the following week. On Twitter, she confirmed that the track would be the first single from her second studio album, which she had been working on for over a year.

Before the tracklist’s release, “Blouse” was anticipated to be track number five on Sling according to a screenshot posted by Clairo’s manager.
