In “Lost Boy,” Ruth B taps into the world of Peter Pan. This song is about belonging and not belonging, feeling lost and found, escaping reality and diving into one’s imagination. Though the song borrows its vocabulary from a specific story, Ruth maintains that Peter Pan deals with themes that anyone can relate to.

This is the first song Canadian songstress Ruth B ever wrote or recorded. In 2015, inspired by Season 3 of the TV show Once Upon a Time, Ruth uploaded a Vine of herself singing a couple lines of this song, made up on the spot. The Vine gained traction overnight, and inspired Ruth to sit down and write the entire song.

Ruth B told Idolator:

I made sure that it wasn’t just about Peter Pan, fairies and pixie dust,” Ruth continues. “I figured that some people were going to listen to it, so I wanted to make sure it had a message. Something that people could take away from it. Everyone gets lonely and everyone needs a friend. You’re bound to feel lost at some point in your life. It’s a universal feeling.

As of June 2016, the song has gone RIAA Gold with over 500,000 certified units distributed in the United States and peaked on Billboard 100 at #24.
