“Heaven and Hell” was first shown on the Donda tracklist posted to Instagram on July 22, 2021.

This track incorporates material from an unreleased song “Future Sounds,” which was on the album’s original tracklist. It was played at one of the Donda listening party rehearsals.

The song features a sample from 20th Century Steel Band’s 1975 track, “Heaven and Hell Is on Earth.”

An official video for “Heaven and Hell” was premiered on January 10, 2022, during the annual College Football Playoff National Championship, and released later in the day. The clip mainly served as a commercial for the new hoodies from the collaboration between Kanye’s own brand Yeezy and GAP. However, fans pointed out that some of the scenes from the surreal clip heavily resembled the Biblical-themed works of several artists, such as Gustave Doré and John Martin.
