Matthew 5:7, which states “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy,” contrasts starkly with the song’s portrayal of “Mercy” as a symbol of materialism and excess. This ironic use of “Mercy,” typically associated with compassion and forgiveness, highlights a stark divergence from its traditional moral and spiritual implications, especially in the context of the song’s themes of wealth and power.

Originally titled “Lamborghini, Murci,” this cut is the first single from Cruel Summer.

The beat was originally produced by Lifted (signed to G.O.O.D. Music). Kanye added the intro vocals, which sample Super Beagle’s 1996 dancehall track “Dust a Soundboy.” The intro and refrain vocals on Beagle’s track are by Fuzzy Jones who’s known for his singular dubplate intros.

The track has been certified quadruple platinum by the RIAA, selling over four million copies, and peaked at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100.
