“Assault & Batteries” is a metal-core track that is based on the acclaimed 1988 film, Child’s Play. “Assault & Batteries” serves as the second single for Ice Nine Kills' sixth studio album, The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood. The song’s theme correlates with the band’s motif—horror-movie inspired music.

Riddled with references to the film, a majority of the song’s plotline hints at the infamous scene in the film when the main character’s mother comes to learn that her demonic child’s toy doesn’t require batteries.

The title of the track is also a play on words to the well-established legal phrase “Assault and Battery”. Although the two words can count as separate charges, they are commonly used together when there is a legal battle relating to physical violence. The word “battery” is a synonym for attack.
