The demo version of the song “A Drug From God” was first played on July 25, 2021, on Grimes' DJ set for the Splendour XR virtual festival event. The biggest difference between the demo and final versions is the bassline – the demo version’s is more disco-style and played on a bass guitar (or at least a synth that sounds like one), whereas the final version has the traditional Chris Lake-style EDM drop with an electronic bass.
