LISA

On “LALISA,” BLACKPINK’s LISA confidently kicks off her solo career. The song marks her first solo release and is the leading track off her debut album, LALISA, named after her real name—Lalisa Manoban.

The track has an upbeat electronic-pop instrumental that fits LISA’s vocals and matches the visuals of the music video. Lyrically, the song exhibits her attitude, how she owns the vibe, and is her real self, LALISA.

The music video emphasizes the song’s main theme through choreography referring to the first letters of her name “LA,” showed as hand symbols. In another scene, LISA displays her Thai culture with The Great Crown of Victory. The crown represents the concept of divine monarchy, where the tall spire is a symbol of authority and the right to rule over their subjects. She’s also wearing clothes made by Thai designer, Polpat Asavaprapha of ASAVA, inspired by the traditional Thai Sabai top and a sarong wrap skirt. In addition, LISA is wearing an ear cuff inspired by Sangwan, a ceremonial necklace that symbolizes wealth and fortune, as well as bringing the aura of Thai culture by using gardenia flowers.

Besides LISA’s Thai clothing, the golden set in the music video is a recreation of the Phanom Rung Historical Park in Buriram Province, Thailand—LISA’s hometown.

The song was promoted via multiple teasers on LISA’s own social media account, as well as BLACKPINK’s, and came along with the “LALISA” YouTube dance challenge.
