Lauren Jauregui ushered in a new era with “Colors,” taken from her debut solo EP Prelude. Written and produced with her friend Johnny Rain in her apartment, this single is the first as an independent artist under her label Attunement Records in partnership with AWAL.

Opening with an airy piano before sinking into R&B-style drums, “Colors” is a contemplative and emotionally charged song, revealing Lauren’s inner reality. In an October 2021 interview with Bustle, the 25-year-old singer-songwriter explained that the song is about “the shit that we all go through on a daily basis as humans: anxiety, depression, imposter syndrome, not feeling like you’re good enough, [and] unworthiness.”

Additionally, Lauren added that “Colors” wasn’t the lead single from Prelude, but rather a “thesis statement” giving a first taste of what’s coming.
