“Can’t Be Together” is the second of three bonus tracks included on the Target Deluxe version of 30. The track, a piano-led ballad produced by frequent Adele collaborator Greg Kurstin, appears to exist tangentially to the chronological storyline Adele suggested defines the standard tracklisting.

Following her divorce, Adele appears to be considering her relationship with an old flame. She makes amends for past behavior, shares that she misses and loves the subject, but comes to the conclusion that they can’t be in a relationship and should focus on their current partners.
