“Remedy” is about addiction and the battle to overcome it.
Released on April 11, 2005, it was the first single from Seether’s Karma and Effect album. The single has received a Gold certification by the RIAA. It also charted at #1 on Billboard’s Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks in June 2005.
Lead singer—Shaun Morgan—has a history of struggling with alcohol and drug abuse, which led to his rehab in 2006. In a 2017 interview he revealed that drugs were his method of coping with pain and hiding his insecurities:
At first it was a social, interactive lubricant. And then you rely on it. Then alcohol isn’t enough, you start turning to drugs. Suddenly, you’ve got so much to say, and you’re a funny guy and every synapse in your brain is firing. And you go, ‘life is great.’ And that becomes a habit. A hell of a mask to wear to hide the insecurities.
