“Buddy’s Rendezvous” is a jazzy ballad covered by Lana Del Rey that is originally performed by Father John Misty for his 2022 album, Chloë and the Next 20th Century.

According to Josh Tillman, the song tells the story of “a guy that gets out of prison, and goes to a deli to meet his daughter, and gets some pretty shitty advice.” The two locations referenced in the song are likely Canter’s Deli in Los Angeles and Buddy’s Pizza in Detroit, also known as Buddy’s Rendezvous.

When Tillman announced his fifth studio album in the beginning of January 2022, Lana Del Rey was confirmed to be one of two artists covering of one of his songs for the record. A few weeks later, he shared a preview of her version of the track. Her cover, however, was originally available as a bonus 7" vinyl included in a limited deluxe box set of the album, released on April 8.

Del Rey’s version of “Buddy’s Rendezvous” arrived to streaming services on June 16. Father John Misty made the announcement two days earlier on the comments of his Instagram post teasing the music video for his version.

Although Father John Misty and Lana Del Rey have constantly supported each other over the years, and besides Tillman appearing in Del Rey’s 2016 music video for “Freak” and being referenced in 2017’s “Coachella – Woodstock in My Mind,” “Buddy’s Rendezvous” marked the first time the two artists have appeared together in a song.
