“More Than a Woman” details Aaliyah’s attraction to a man and her desire to be a better lover than anybody he has ever been with.

It was first written by Static Major as “Draw The Line,” which was going to be about a love between Aaliyah and a man who may be cheating as being so intimate that she has to question “where to draw the line.” After recording this version as a demo (which Aaliyah was not present for and never got to hear), Static felt it could be improved and chose to rewrite it.

During the planning for the follow-up single to “We Need a Resolution,” Aaliyah wanted “Rock the Boat” and firmly stood by it, while her labels Blackground and Virgin were interested in “More Than a Woman.” This disagreement ended in Aaliyah’s favor, and “More Than a Woman” would be issued as the third and final single from her self-titled third album.
