On “Love Takes Over,” French EDM superstar David Guetta and American R&B singer Kelly Rowland join forces to celebrate the awesome power of love. The up-tempo dance-pop tune played a pivotal role in both of their careers, helping Guetta cross over the U.S. mainstream and inspiring Rowland to explore dance music on her subsequent third album, 2011’s Here I Am.

The tune was born when Rowland happened to catch one of Guetta’s DJ sets in the South of France. She was so moved by the instrumental version that she begged Guetta for the track. She told The Independent:

It brought tears to my eyes! After that, I asked him if I could have the track and I brought it with me to London. I wrote a song to it and I sent it back to him and next thing, it was history.

Although “Love Takes Over” wasn’t a massive U.S. pop hit, it reached #1 on the Dance Club Songs chart.
