“Breakfast” is the second single from part one of Dove Cameron’s debut album, Alchemical: Vol. 1. The single was released June 24th, 2022. The single is the follow-up to her 2022 smash hit “Boyfriend”. Dove performed the track on her UK shows on April 13th and 14th, prior to its release.

The track was written in early March 2022 and was teased on March 8, 2022. More TikToks were posted until June 14 when Dove finally announced the song’s release date of June 24, 2022.

Lyrically, the track is about holding power over men, after being put down by men for a long time. The idea of Dove “eating boys for breakfast” is an idiom which means she wants to easily defeat or deal with those overcontrolling men. The music video, released two months after the single’s release, portrays an upside-down world where men are the ones doing the hard work, while the women get to mess with their heads.
