On June 7, 2022, Lil Nas X shared a snippet of the song on Twitter, this came after he was snubbed on the 2022 BET Awards, which he addresses in the lyrics. Later that day, he previewed another snippet through TikTok.

On June 23, 2022, just a day before the song’s release, Lil Nas X released the official song trailer which included a message in the video regarding the song’s meaning:
