Battery Kinzie

Battery Kinzie

Fleet Foxes

Battery Kinzie is a concrete fort that was built to protect Puget Sound.

There is a reference to the US Marines hymn on the album’s opener, “Montezuma to Tripoli”, Battery Kinzie. Most batteries are located on hills, but this one is at the water level.

“Montezuma to Tripoli” is a reference to the coastal war, a metaphor for what is later to be discussed in the album, especially the ocean mentioned in tracks (Sim Sala Bim, The Shrine/An Argument, Grown Ocean…)
