Ativan is the 13th and final song off Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel. In an interview with Pitchfork Cox said about the song:

“It’s just a garage-rock pop song about being addicted to Ativan, which is something I deal with. It’s kind of cliché probably, but I don’t care. It’s an honest song, and it talks a lot about how things have changed between me and Lockett’s (Deerhunter guitarist) relationship and how he’s met a girl and, I mean, our friendship is never gonna change, but it’s difficult sometimes.”
