On “Silent Hill,” Kendrick Lamar recruits Florida native Kodak Black for a mellow trap cruiser about life, success, and fake friendships.

Hours prior to the song’s release, rumors of Kodak’s appearance on Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers began to circulate, however, this wasn’t confirmed until the official release.

The song’s title may allude to themes found throughout the project—for example, on “Savior,” Kendrick makes mention of silence as a mechanism for his individual mental health and explicitly cites a “valley of silence.”

Silent Hill is also the name of a famous horror game franchise, created and released by Konami in February 1999. Kendrick could be comparing his station in the rap game to the fictional horror of being surrounded by villains or monsters, similar to the iconic series.
